How Paixxão Empowers Young Women in the Nail Industry
When Priscilla started her nail salon Paixxão.Co in 2016, she set out to solve two problems. First, it was to give clients the BEST services with unparalleled standards in nail salon hygiene and sanitation. As a result, her nail salon was voted “Best Nail Salon” in Albuquerque since the day it opened. Next, because of her own experiences as an aspiring new nail tech, a decade earlier, she decided to only hire graduating beauty school students and teach them everything she knew about the business.
However, despite their undeniable talent, many of them faced personal challenges that made it difficult for them to succeed.
So, Priscilla studied how the nail industry offered a unique way for her team to express their creativity, find healing, and build fulfilling careers. With her guidance, they were able to overcome their obstacles and find success.
That’s when it clicked…

What Sets Priscilla Apart:
Through her Passion was born a program that allowed her to provide others a safe space to grow. The system helped dozens of young women use the beauty industry to escape perilous lifestyles and find self-worth.
In her research to launch a professional nail technology school she discovered that 50% of the homeless population in New Mexico are teenagers. Among many are young women aging out of the foster care system or running from abusive home environments and relationships. These young women not only feel stuck, lost and left without hope for a better future, they're also at high risk of being sex trafficked.
It didn't end there! She then learned that to enter cosmetology school the age requirement was only 16; yet no one was talking about it. The burden of possessing this life changing system rested on her until she decided to leverage it for a great cause.
That cause is a nonprofit organization she founded called Passion's Story. A separate entity from Paixxão.Co, Passion's Story is the first of it's kind, in the world, a full service nonprofit salon building a social infrastructure to help young women through training, mentoring, entrepreneurship coaching, financial literacy, and personal development, all while building a clientele and generating a sustainable income.
So... what really makes this different?
#1. Passion's Story flips the beauty industry on its head:
First, Passion's Story pays the way for young women to get through beauty school. After graduating, students will be hired to work at Passion's Story for 12 months.
Traditionally, the first 12 months of a beauty school graduate's career carries the most vulnerable stages of their success. For those that have had a history of trauma can easily be triggered by simply being in a new environment. Salons have struggled with this phenomenon for decades.
Creating the first nonprofit salon allows the organization to employ counselors and therapists. Elevating the industry and providing an even safer environment for them to grow and succeed even faster.
#2. Passion's Story solves a problem not yet solved in the beauty industry:
More than 80% of professionals in the beauty industry are women. Starting a new career can be extremely challenging, especially if you're a mom.
Attached to Passion's Story salon is a Child Learning Center that duals as a child care facility that is offered at no charge for the moms in the program.
This two generation approach will empower them to strive even further and break the cycle of poverty for generations to come.
#3. Passion's Story ends the notion of competition in the industry:
While working in the nonprofit salon, graduates will be participating in our work-study program as paid interns. We then partner with local salons giving them the opportunity to regularly visit Passion's Story, building relationships and sharing leading industry knowledge with our team.
After 12 months our team of young women will have the opportunity to partake in our job placement program. Except this time they're not getting hired based on talent but based on the relationships they built with our local salon partners.
As a salon owner, they're able to hire an already trained candidate with a clientele. This structure saves local salons thousands of dollars and resources typically necessary during the onboarding process.
Passion's Story is not just a nonprofit, it is a movement! A movement to mobilize the beauty industry and revolutionize the way we impact a generation.

After trying my local salons, I was so put off by their subpar service that I decided to leave behind a decade’s worth of experience in property management for the nail industry.
In 2016, I finally took the leap of faith, opened my salon, and named it after the Portuguese word for passion, Paixxão.
